Don’t let’em paint the streets pink
Meaningful change is never cosmetic. But they'll tell you otherwise.
When we don’t know our demands, any concession can feel like a victory. We all (non-black folks) fell for their trick during the BLM protests. I know I did.
It’s a pretty clever move, actually. When people demand change, all one needs to do is act as if change has occurred. Paint BLACK LIVES MATTER on Pennsylvania Avenue. Put on a kente and kneel before CNN prime time.
How’d that work out for us? For those we were fighting for?
It made us feel good, though— Wolf Blitzer reporting back from DC that meaningful legislation was just around the corner— and we all went home. Besides, things were getting a bit out of control. I mean, they burned down a Wendy’s! We must keep our sense of decorum, right? Because if we all go down at least we played by the rules…right?
Nothing is changed unless it is changed. Ask Hong Kong.
In the coming months they will put on a show. They’ll pretend as if change has occurred and that more change is on the way. Don’t let them trick us again. And don’t be fooled for one minute into believing that forced birth isn’t already an act of violence.
When they paint the streets pink in the name of women and birth givers, tell them to go to hell.
