In the past few years, we’ve seen some of the most regressive legislation pass in red states since Jim Crow. Now, I don’t want to fall into the trap of comparing modern-day oppression, which seems content with including white Americans this time, to historical and current Black oppression. But there are parallels to draw between the Jim Crow era and the yet-to-be-named anti-trans, anti-women, and birth-givers movement of modern day (which include members of all races). Specifically, I think about the effects of this regressive movement, and how it could mirror history.
